Still learning what the concept of student retention is all about? Why do students leave college? Or better yet, what makes a student decide to stay in college?
This down-to-the-basics session will provide an introductory review of terminology and an overview of the student retention literature and research. Theoretical models and research from Tinto, Astin, Seidman, and Noel and Levitz will be shared. Best practices for classrooms and student services, measuring student retention, and setting realistic retention goals will also be covered.
The presentation can be modified to meet the needs of the audience and may vary, depending on the length of time allocated, the number of participants, and the goals of the program.
